Karen Levett, FCCA – The Not-So-Boring Accountant

Karen Levett - AccountantI set up Levett & Associates in 2013 with the aim of helping small businesses with their accountancy and tax affairs by offering a personal service with a view to building long term relationships with my clients.

I love working with start-ups and owner managed businesses to help them deal with the red-tape, support them in making sense of the financial side of the business whilst making accountancy as ‘un-scary’ and less boring as I possibly can.

As well as my clients and their numbers my passions are my dogs, particularly the office dog Darcy who you will meet below, 4×4 off-roading, Pilates and motorbikes.

I’m not the kind of accountant that wears a grey suit and sits behind a big desk droning on about tax and accounts. Yes, of course I can help my clients with all of that but at the same time I love getting to know them and their plans for the future which helps me to guide them through all stages of the lifecycle of their business, sometimes whilst out for a walk with the dog.

One of the biggest compliments I receive is when people say to me ‘Oh, you don’t look like an accountant’ !

The Slightly More Boring Bit

Karen Levett OfficeMy accountancy training started with one of the large UK firms, Moore Stephens in Bath, dealing predominantly with the audit of larger UK companies.

After a brief time working in industry as the financial cost accountant for an independent calendar printing company in Bristol, I continued my training at a small general practice in York (yes, I am very fortunate to have worked in two of the loveliest cities in the country).

I completed my ACCA qualification with a small accountancy firm in Milton Keynes and went on to help the current managing director build this into a successful and pro-active firm within the local area before becoming a partner in a long established practice in Bedford.

Darcy the Office Dog

Darcy Office DogI joined the firm 6 months after it started and have been a full time employee since that time.

My main duties are ‘front of house’, reception and security although I do also provide staff and client welfare services when required.

I love meeting our clients, particularly those that bring biscuits for me when they come as well as taking part in outdoor client meetings whenever possible.

My main hobby is food but I also enjoy sleeping, walking, our 4×4 adventures and eating (in case I didn’t mention that already).

I look forward to meeting you soon.
